10-year-old boy receives €27,000 for suffering injuries from bulb explosion

10-year-old boy receives €27,000 as compensation after he was injured from a beside lamp bulb explosion at home. Joseph Carney of Bailes, Dunleer, Co Louth sued the stores Dealz and Ikea from where the bulb and beside lamp were bought. The accident took place on December 12th, 2016 and Joseph was just six years old at the time.

The beside lamp was purchased from Ikea and the bulb was purchased from the local Dealz store. The boy sued both the parties through his mother.

Joseph had received injury to his left lower eyelid and burning on his cheek. He was first taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, and then was transferred to Temple Street Childrens’ Hospital for treatment.

Dealz and Ikea agreed to settle the case out of court and agreed to pay €27,000 after negotiations. The boy’s family agreed to the deal, barrister Daniel Coyle informed the Circuit Civil Court.
