Aldi signs lease for a 23,000 sq ft store at The Crossings in Adamstown

Aldi is set to open a new store as part of a major urban development in Adamstown, west Dublin.

The German grocer has signed a lease for a 23,000 sq ft store at The Crossings, where it will join Tesco and other retailers as part of a €500 million development by Quintain, the housebuilding unit of US private equity giant Lone Star.

Construction on the Aldi store has commenced and it is expected that both the Aldi and Tesco stores will be completed in early 2023.

Michael Hynes, joint managing partner at Quintain Ireland, said: “Adding Aldi as the second major retailer for The Crossings is a welcome boost for not just Adamstown but the wider area. Adamstown has huge potential to be one of Dublin’s best served urban villages, and the delivery of new retail and leisure options will help in realising that ambition.”

The Crossings is a new development which commenced construction last year. Phase 1 of the development includes 279 build-to-rent apartments, a further 20 retail units and five restaurant outlets, along with a multistorey car park. Planning permission for a second phase of 185 apartments has been granted and further phases are planned for submission in late 2021 and early 2022. Over the next four to five years, Quintain is aiming to build almost 1,000 residential units at The Crossings, mostly apartments and duplexes, with a very small number of houses.

The development will also include a two-acre village green, with areas designed to bring people together at community events, artisan markets and family fun days.

Quintain owns 220 acres in the Adamstown and Lucan area, where it plans to develop more than 4,000 new homes and 250,000sq ft of commercial space.
