Bauer Media Audio has completed full regulatory clearance of its acquisition of Communicorp Group to enter Ireland

Bauer Media Audio has completed full regulatory clearance of its acquisition of Communicorp Group taking it one step closer to entering the Republic of Ireland. This expands Bauer Media Audio’s growing position as Europe’s leading commercial radio operator and will extend its business operations to eight countries and more than 57 million weekly listeners. It is anticipated that the acquisition will complete on May 31st, 2021

In accordance with Part 3A of the Competition Act 2002 (the Act), as amended, the Minister was notified on 23 March 2021 of the Proposed Acquisition of Communicorp Group Limited by Bauer Media Audio Holding GmbH. In accordance with the Act, the Department undertook a ‘Phase 1’ examination of the merger in order to determine its potential effect on the plurality of media in the state. As a result of this examination the Minister made a determination, on 12 May 2021, that the proposed media merger will not adversely affect the plurality of media in the state and, as such, that it may be put into effect.

Paul Keenan, President of Audio comments, “We are excited to be one step closer to entering Ireland. This is a fantastic addition to Bauer Media Audio, and we see great opportunities to further develop the business while continuing to play an important cultural role in Ireland with trusted news, talented presenters offered within well-known brands.”
