Boy, 3, dies in Co. Limerick after being hit by a vehicle

A three-year-old boy died following a tragic incident in Limerick on Friday.

At before 10.30 am, a vehicle struck the kid, who was identified locally as Padraig Cunningham, in Ballyduhig, west Limerick, leaving him critically injured.

The kid was treated by emergency personnel who arrived on the site, however, he was later declared dead at University Hospital Limerick.

A post-mortem will be performed, and the case will be sent to the Limerick Coroner’s office for an inquest.

The death of a three-year-old boy at his house on Friday is being treated as a terrible accident, Gardaí said.

In a statement, gardaí said: “Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of an incident on private property, in Charleville, Co Limerick, this morning, Friday, July 22, 2022.

“A three-year-old child (boy) later passed away from his injuries. A family liaison officer has been appointed to support the family at this time. 

“No further information is being made available.”
