Driver (22) dies after being injured in Killarney motor rally

A 22-year-old man has died after being injured in an accident that occurred in Co Kerry yesterday.

The single-vehicle collision happened during the Killarney Forestry Rally in Mount Eagle, Castleisland at approximately 2 pm on Sunday afternoon.

The man, who was driving a car, was badly injured and airlifted to Cork University Hospital where he died later.

His passenger, a man in his 30s, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

A garda spokesperson said that gardaí are engaging with the relevant agencies in relation to this matter.

The organisers of the event Killarney and District Motor Club released the following statement last night: “The Killarney and District Motor Club regrets to inform that following an accident on stage four of the Killarney Forest Rally, a competitor succumbed to his injuries and passed away in Cork University Hospital tonight (Sunday). “We extend our sympathies to his family and friends. May he Rest in Peace.”
