Further 1,592 Covid cases in Ireland; 318 patients in hospitals

1,592 cases of Covid-19 infection confirmed in Ireland today. As of now, 318 patients are in hospitals due to Covid and 60 of them are in ICUs. Yesterday, the number of patients in hospitals were 314. The HSE chief Paul Reid had yesterday called the rise in patients in hospitals ‘real threat.’

“Over the course of the last seven days, 32 people with COVID-19 were admitted to critical care facilities and today, there are a total of 60 people with COVID-19 receiving critical care. The median age of those in ICU is 55 – this means that 50% of the patients currently in ICU with Covid-19 are aged less than 55 years.” Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said today.

He also urged the people to manage social contacts and choose outdoors where possible for meeting outdoors. He reminded that full protection will be available only after 7-14 days of second dose vaccine.
