Garda and Department of Social Protection Warns people on Fraud Phone Calls Requesting Personal Data

Fraud calls and scams have been spotted by Garda and Department of Social Protection and warns the public to be aware of these fraudsters. People are receiving phone calls and text messages where the fraudsters says they are from Department of Social Protection.

People are requested to reveal their full name, PPS number and bank account details and these are used for fraud purposes. Garda advises the public to

  • not engage with the caller or return a call to them
  • not share personal information through phone calls and text messages
  • not believe those phone calls as Garda or Department of Social Protection never ask your bank details and personal data
  • Garda or Department of Social Protection never advise you to move your money to other accounts or to purchase crypto currency

If you receive such a call or text, contact the local Garda station and your bank immediately.
