Public Employment Services (PES) are the authorities that connect jobseekers with employers throughout Europe. Although structured differently in each country, all PES help match supply and demand on the labour market through information, placement and active support services at local, national and European level.

Intreo, is the Irish Public Employment Service and is part of the Department of Social Protection.

In Ireland, Public Employment Services are provided by Intreo, a single point of contact for all employment and income supports.Designed to provide a streamlined approach, Intreo offers practical, tailored employment services and supports for jobseekers and employers in Intreo Centres throughout Ireland.

Who are Intreo – Public Employment Services for

Employment services are available to people of working age who want to access supports or service, including people who are:

  • in receipt of a jobseekers or disability payments
  • in receipt of other Social Welfare payments including adult dependants
  • in receipt of the COVID-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP)
  • employed or looking to change job or career
  • interested in becoming self-employed
  • working part-time and want to increase their hours
  • not in receipt of any payment from the department but interested in work experience, job seeking assistance and returning to the workplace after an absence
  • an International Protection applicant with permission from the Department of Justice to access the labour market

Your local Intreo can work with you directly to

  • support you to prepare for and find work
  • offer you supports and services to help you change career, upskill or retrain
  • identify suitable training opportunities
  • identify supports if you want to set up your own business
  • connect you with employers who are actively looking to hire people
