Man and woman die baby boy hospitalised in Limerick crash

A road traffic collision in County Limerick has resulted in the deaths of a man and a woman.

The occupants of the car, both in their 30s, were pronounced dead at the scene.

At 9.25 p.m. on Sunday, the N21 at Ballycarrane, Patrickswell, saw a deadly collision between a van and a car.

A man and woman in their 20s and a baby boy who were in the van were rushed to University Hospital Limerick for treatment, although it is now believed that they are unharmed.

The bodies of the deceased were removed to the hospital and the road has been closed for a forensic examination. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing to any person who may have witnessed this collision to contact them. Any road users who were travelling in the area and who may have camera footage, including dash cam footage, is asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.

It is the third fatal road accident to be reported in the previous 24 hours after a teenager died on Sunday in Co. Kerry after the car he was driving collided with a tree.

On Achill Island, a pedestrian was killed in a collision with a car only a few hours later, in the early hours of Monday.
