A road traffic accident in Co. Cavan claimed the life of a man in his 40s.
Around 11.30 am on Friday, a car and a parked truck collided on the R178 near Carrickgorman in Bailieborough.
The man was the driver and sole occupant of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body has since been removed to Cavan General Hospital where a post mortem will be carried out.
The road is currently closed with local diversions in place.
Forensic collision investigators are currently carrying out their examinations of the scene.
Gardaí have appealed for any witnesses to the collision to contact Bailieborough Garda Station.
