Orange alert issued for three counties as heavy rain and strong winds batter Ireland

Met Éireann has issued orange and yellow weather warnings across multiple counties as Ireland faces continued heavy rainfall and strong winds today and tomorrow.

Orange Rain Warning

An orange rain warning came into effect at 2pm today (Friday) for Dublin, Wexford and Wicklow and will remain in place until 11am tomorrow (Saturday). Authorities are warning of intense rainfall, particularly in elevated areas, which is expected to cause flooding and create difficult travel conditions.

Yellow Rain Warnings

A yellow rain warning is in effect for Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford from 9am today until 9am tomorrow. The persistent heavy rainfall may lead to localized flooding, with Cork having already experienced flooding in recent days.

A separate yellow rain warning covers Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Louth, Meath, Wexford and Wicklow from 11am today until 11am tomorrow.

Yellow Wind Warning

Strong winds have prompted a yellow wind warning for Dublin, Louth, Meath, Wexford and Wicklow, which will be in effect from 12pm today until 4pm tomorrow (Saturday).

Authorities are advising motorists to exercise extreme caution on the roads, allow extra time for journeys, and be vigilant for surface water and debris. Residents in affected areas should secure outdoor items and monitor local updates closely.

The combination of heavy rain and strong winds may lead to power outages, fallen trees and dangerous driving conditions across the warning regions.
