According to the Central Statistics Office report, In March 2022, 1,100,700 passengers arrived in Ireland on overseas routes, compared to February 2022 which is an increase of 40%.
In the same month, 1,055,400 passengers departed from Ireland on overseas routes, up 34% from February 2022.
Overseas travel was considerably higher in March 2022 than in March 2021, when 61,400 passengers arrived, and 66,500 passengers departed
The figures were published by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) for its air and sea travel statistics for February.
Gregg Patrick, the Statistician, said: “The Air and Sea Travel Statistics for March 2022 show an increase in overseas travel compared with the preceding month. Also, March 2022 was the first month since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic that overseas arrivals or departures exceeded one million people. In March 2022, 1,100,700 overseas passengers arrived in Ireland, compared to 787,300 in February 2022, an increase of 40%. In March 2022, 1,055,400 overseas passengers departed from Ireland, compared to 785,200 in February 2022, an increase of 34%.
The March 2022 statistics show that continental routes contributed the most to the passenger traffic. Some 554,200 passengers arrived on continental routes and 529,500 passengers departed on continental routes. By way of contrast, 427,900 passengers arrived on cross-channel routes and 414,600 passengers departed on cross-channel routes. Transatlantic routes saw 86,600 passengers arriving and 82,700 passengers departing on these routes.
Apart from Great Britain (which accounted for almost all cross-channel routes), the most important routing countries for overseas travel in March 2022 were Spain (121,600 arrivals, 125,100 departures), the United States (78,400 arrivals, 75,400 departures), and France (64,000 arrivals, 62,500 departures).”
