People warned over surge in Covid cases in Limerick and north Tipperary

The public health officials warn people of Limerick and north Tipperary following a surge in Covid cases over the past week. Yesterday alone 85 cases were reported in the area which is the highest daily increase in the region since June 11, 2021.

Public Health Mid West confirmed 824 Covid infections in the region over the last 14 days. 515 cases were in Limerick and 183 in Clare. North Tipperary recorded 126 Covid cases over the same period.

The main reasons for new infections are said to be multiple exposures and close contacts. As the restrictions eased, many people have started to mingle on streets and other public spaces.

The public health officials warn unvaccinated people to take extra care while going outdoors to meet friends or family this weekend. Even vaccinated people can transfer virus to unvaccinated ones, the officials had indicated earlier.

Wearing mask, keeping social distancing and washing hands or using sanitizer are greatly beneficial in preventing virus spread, the officials emphasized.
