A protest has been organised by the Non-European doctors who have been residents of Ireland and waiting for their registration exam nearly 1.8 years. The protest took place outside Leinster house on Thursday and the doctors shared deep anguish waiting for Irish medical council to conduct PRES 3 examination which is suspended since march 2020 following Covid outbreak.
Irish medical Council (IMC) conducts PRES 3, which is a clinical examination for doctors coming from outside of the European Union to get IMC registration for working in Ireland.
According to the protestors, there are about 66 doctors who are living in Ireland without any advancement in their career despite the country still struggling with shortage of doctors who should be available for service at any moment. This injustice has been pointed out to the medical council and to the attention of government officials many times, but there has been no attempts to consider their plea. A protest was organised as a last remedy in front of the democratic institution to showcase the misery of the 66 doctors and their families, which they hope will in turn open the eyes of concerned authorities.
The doctors aid that they are not ready to trust the IMC with the same reassuring sugar coated candies anymore. It is the continuous negligence from the authorities that have forced them to take extreme measures as witnessed in front of supreme house, the protestors added. All the other sectors in Ireland has already been opened or assumed the status of living with pandemic, it is quite an absurd argument that such an important examination cannot be conducted, the doctors criticize.
The unfortunate fate of the ill treated non-EU doctors in Ireland forced them to take less rewarding jobs to meet life’s ends and it is not surprising if the common populace meet them in supermarkets assisting with purchase or riding their taxis to the hospital, the protestors reveal their helplessness.
