PV Sindhu Wins Singapore Open 2022 Title against China’s Wang Zhi Yi

India’s PV Sindhu beat China’s Wang Zhi Yi 21-9, 11-21, and 21-15 to claim her maiden title in Singapore and her third title in 2022 after wins in the Korea Open and Swiss Open.

Sindhu won the first game 21-9 in a dominating fashion but Wang Zhi gained the second game.

In the final game, Zhi Yi gave a tough fight to Sindhu, but the latter’s early lead played a crucial role in her win. The Chinese attempted a comeback but ultimately fell short, losing the final game 21-15.

The win also helped Sindhu maintain her unbeaten record against Wang Zhi. Sindhu won their first match against each other earlier this year at the All England Open. Sunday also saw a similar result as a dominating Sindhu bagged her first Super 500 title of the year. Meanwhile, it is Sindhu’s third title of the ongoing season after winning the Syed Modi International and Swiss Open BWF Super 300 titles.

Sindhu said in court interview “Getting this title means a lot. This would give me a lot of confidence. This will take me to another level. The whole week, a couple of matches were in three games, some were in two. But each match was important from the start. Now it’s time to relax a bit and focus on the Commonwealth Games. This is just the start, but it’ll give me a lot of confidence.”
