Status Yellow rain warning issued for the weekend

Heavy downpours is forecast over the weekend, and Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow rain warning across the country, which will go into effect from 9 p.m. tomorrow.

The weather alert had already been released by the forecaster, who forecasted that the recent dry weather will give way to wet and windy conditions over the next three days.

The Status Yellow rain warning will be in place until midday on Sunday.

At the same time as the Electric Picnic music event begins, hundreds of people are arriving in Stradbally, County Laois.

The festival begins today for the first time since 2019, having missed two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Today will begin mostly cloudy with some hazy sunny periods, according to Met Éireann.

However, persistent rain will develop in Atlantic coastal counties during the afternoon and spread eastwards later this evening. It will be cloudy and wet overnight with outbreaks of rain, which will be heavy at times.

A mix of sunny periods and showers, some of which will be heavy and thundery, will occur elsewhere tomorrow morning as the rain moves northeastward.

The UK Met Office has issued a Yellow rain warning for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Tyrone and Derry and said that occasional periods of heavy rain tomorrow may lead to some travel disruption.

From today at midnight until tomorrow at midnight, the warning will be in effect.
