Tanaiste Leo Varadkar feels that the state is not in a position to lift the restrictions imposed. The State had plans to ease restrictions where risks are too low. In the Dail he said that the “State can’t treat different counties differently” because covid cases are very high in all counties.
The mutated virus is more dangerous than the previous one and 500 to 600 positive cases are being reported daily. Even though others members in the Dail show a positive sign in easing the Level 5 restrictions, Tanaiste is not sure that even though incidents in many counties may be very low, there is a huge chance of a rapid increase in cases, especially with a holy week coming up.
The vaccination processes should be more fast and when it should reach all age groups, there is a chance of easing restrictions. Minimum 40-50% of the total population should get the vaccine which could make a more meaningful impact.
