Wexford County Council issues warning as avian flu kills hundreds of birds

Due to concerns about avian flu, Wexford County Council has urged locals to avoid touching dead wild birds.

With dogs also in danger of contracting the illness, there follows a sharp rise in complaints of animal remains.

The local authority also called on people not to go near birds that are exhibiting flu-like symptoms.

It has requested that the whereabouts of any ill or dead birds be reported to the council offices.

A system has been formed by Wexford County Council for the proper disposal of the animal’s remains.

The council said: “High Incidence of Bird Mortality in Co. Wexford. Please do not approach, move or handle in any way. Report to Avian Influenza Hotline on 01 6072512 and to Wexford County Council on 053 9196000, extension 5.”
