An Cailín Ciúin named Dublin Film Critics’ best film

The Dublin Film Critics Circle has named the movie “An Cailn Ciin” as the year’s best film.

The award was given to an Irish movie for the first time in the organization’s 14-year history.

‘An Cailín Ciúin’, based on the short story “Foster” by Claire Keegan, has amassed over €1 million at the Irish and UK box offices — a record high for an Irish-language film — and has been chosen as Ireland’s entry for the Academy Award for best foreign feature.

An Cailin Ciúin, which is ranked number one, and Róise and Frank, which is ranked number two, are the top two Irish-language movies in the category of “best Irish films.”

The Dublin Film Critics Circle was established in 2006, and Tara Brady of The Irish Times serves as its president. Each year, the group asks its members to vote on their favourite movies and professional contributions.

Colin Farrell was named ‘best actor’ for Banshees of Inisherin, with Martin McDonagh’s film also winning ‘Best Screenplay’.
