Cocaine and heroin seized after prison chiefs drug raid in Mountjoy cell

In a major crackdown at Mountjoy Prison, prison chiefs have seized over €130,000 worth of cocaine, heroin and a huge stash of tablets

Authorities believe the haul which was discovered on Tuesday, is linked to members of the the Kinahan cartel as no other gang would have the clout to pull it all together and into a jail.

The discovery was made in a cell on the C3 landing, with a large amount of the stash hidden behind a sink.

Acting on intelligence, the seizure was made by the Irish Prison Service’s Operational Support Group.

It also led them to nabbing 15 phones, among which there were smart phones but also the mini phones, which are easier to get into jails and hide.

Thousands of LSD tabs were found along with a huge amount of unidentified tablets.

The drugs are now all under examination.

The prison service is now working in coordination with gardai as part of the probe, but arrests have been made.

Investigators have pinpointed the Kinahan cartel as prime suspects, with many of their associates locked up in the prison.
