Commercial Skills Academy launches a new training programme for senior officials in the Public Sector

The Commercial Skills Academy (CSA) in the Office of Government Procurement (OGP) has successfully launched a new training programme for senior officials across the Public Sector.

The ‘Oversight of Capital Projects for Senior Officials’ programme is designed for senior officials with responsibility for capital infrastructure projects. The programme was developed with the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) and the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI) and is delivered in collaboration with both.

Launched in June, the training aims to enhance knowledge and understanding of the appropriate governance and oversight structures, necessary resources and control systems for capital projects.

Paul Quinn, CEO of the OGP, welcomed the launch of the programme, saying, “I am delighted to see the CSA launch another successful programme to develop the commercial skills of the Public Sector. A successful pilot of the programme with attendees drawn from across the public service found that the programme offered practical insights, approaches and tools that they could quickly deploy in their own Departments and Agencies.”

“This training supports Government’s objectives in obtaining value for money, increased cost certainty at tender award stage and an efficient delivery of publicly funded capital projects.”

The programme consists of three sessions, focusing on governance and oversight arrangements, risk management and cost management. Two programme iterations are planned for later this year and more in 2023.
