Copenhagen named the safest city in the world above Tokyo and Singapore; What about Dublin?

Copenhagen, the capital city of Denmark is the safest city in the world according to the study published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). According to the EIU’s Safe Cities Index, Copenhagen surpassed Tokyo which was the first in list in 2019, by scoring 82.4 points out of 100.

The second safest city is Toronto, securing 82.2 points. Followed by these two, Singapore (80.7), Sydney (80.1) and Tokyo (80.0) come in third to fifth positions respectively.

The researchers considered 60 cities across the globe by validating 76 indicators of security to finalise the list. Unfortunately, Dublin could not make it to the list assumed to be due to the increased incidents of assaults in the city recently.

The study mainly focused on urban security in terms of digital, health, infrastructure, personal and environmental. This is for the first-time environmental security is added as an indicator since EUI started publishing annual results in 2015.

Meanwhile the capital city of India, New Delhi secured 48th position in the list with 56.1 points and Mumbai stays on the 50th with 54.4 points.

‘Covid-19 has changed the whole concept of urban safety.’ the report stated.

‘We are seeing very strong correlation between high income countries and performance on the index.’ it added.
