Disney to release all of the scheduled films exclusively to cinemas for the rest of the year

Disney will release all of its films scheduled to be released this year exclusively in cinemas, it was confirmed. The entertainment giant had previously released some of their films via OTT platform and faced criticism from cinema owners and stars. Following this, all of the films scheduled for this year release will come first to cinemas, Disney announced today.

Like all other movie studios, Covid had worst impact on Disney as well and caused huge losses. The studio had forced to release some of their films like Black Widow and Jungle Cruise through Disney+ platform in many countries. The main lead of Black Widow, Hollywood star Scarlett Johansson had come out in public against the decision for OTT release of the movie and sued Disney for breaching contracts.

According to the new announcement, the animated film ‘Encanto’ will be released on the big screen on 24 November and will not appear on Disney’s on-demand video platform until 24 December. Other projects such as The Last Duel directed by Ridley Scott, Eternals from Marvel Studios, West Side Story, the remake by Steven Spielberg will all be released in cinemas and will have the screening on OTT only after 45 days of theatrical release.
