Current Scenario
The current system is this – You can bring your parents to Ireland for only a 1-year Stamp 0 visa. And, that too, after a long waiting period which includes the time to get the approval of the Stamp 0 and then apply for the Visa. All this, only if you and your partner have a high set of annual income standard.
The Petition
This petition is set to bring a change in the current permanent visa statistics being issued to parents and grandparents of Non-EEA national / naturalised Irish Citizens.
More than half of the Non-EEA nationals in Ireland are working on Stamp 1 or Stamp 4 visas which includes people on critical skill permits, general work permit holders and frontline workers. The high set of annual standards currently in place is unreasonable as most of the people will not be able to meet them.
Thus the petition includes the reduction of the annual income standard to a minimum of 40000 euros.
International examples
Considering the international examples set by countries like Australia, UK, Canada and New Zealand, the guidelines set by Irish government is inapt.
Canada for example, provides 2 year Super Visa for parents and grandparents, while permanent family class scheme enables them to immigrate to their family in Canada.
While UK provides the duration of the visa as the length of their family member’s UK visa, New Zealand allows permanent visa to the dependent family.
In all these above mentioned cases, the provisions are such that the immigrated citizens and permanent residents are reunited with their close family. Therefore, it would be a great time for Ireland to reconsider the requirements set for the dependent family visa (parents) criteria and status.
How To Bring A Change
The highlights of this petition are as follows.
- Increase Stamp 0 Visa to 2 years in line with Canadian Super Visa.
- Reduce the income standard to 40,000€.
- Remove the criteria stating emotional and financial provisions.
- Reduce the waiting period for Stamp 0 visa.
