DRDO’s Oral Medicine to fight Covid 19 approved by DGCI for emergency use

The Drug Controller General of India had approved an anti Covid oral drug by the DRDO for emergency use in moderate to severe Covid patients. The Defence Ministry had officially announced this news on Saturday. Clinical tests shows that it could result in faster recovery of patients and reduces supplement oxygen dependence.

The ministry hopes that the drug could save many precious lives as the drug operates on infected cells which eventually reduces the period of hospital stay of the patients. The medicine is used in a therapeutic application which had been found out by the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences. The drug comes in a powdered form and is taken orally by dissolving in water.

A total of three phases were carried out in the testing of this medicine and the detailed data of the final phase was presented to the DGCI. The results showed that a higher proportion of patients improved from their symptoms and became free from supplementary oxygen dependence. This trend was more seen in patients above 65 years of age. A huge percent among the patients who consumed the medicine tested negative in RT-PCR test.
