Dublin women’s football clubs join SuperCup NI Tournament

In a competition against the best female teams from Scotland, America, and Northern Ireland, Bohemians FC and Shelbourne FC will send their youth female squads.

On its 40th anniversary, the two teams will compete in the SuperCup Northern Ireland Tournament.

Bohs will face off in the junior division against NI clubs Linfield FC and Crusaders FC as well as American teams Surd Select, FC America, and USSSA Select.

In the premier division, Shelbourne FC  will face off against American teams Northeast Rush, FC America, and Surf Select as well as Scottish club Rangers FC.

NI International Emily Wilson, who was part of the Northern Ireland side that created history last summer when they made their debut at a major championship, said it was an “incredible” experience to take part in the tournament.

She said: “Playing in the tournament was a real coup and taking part in the parade and seeing all the teams from across the world was an incredible experience.

“It was great to see teams from across the globe playing in the girls’ section last summer and it is fantastic to see the growth of the girls’ section. I hope it continues to go from strength to strength.”

The opening ceremony for the 2023 competition will take place on Sunday, July 23, in Coleraine, and it will end with finals day on Friday, July 28. Games will be held in council areas, Causeway, Coast and Glens, Mid and East Antrim, and Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council.
