Facebook is no longer ‘Facebook’; Report points towards plans of name change

Popular social media platform Facebook is planning for a name change which will bring it to the groups of platforms managed by the parental company Facebook Inc. says report. According to the report by the US technology blog Verge, the new brand name will be announced by CEO Mark Zuckerberg at the company’s annual Connect conference on October 28th. The reports are based on a source who has direct knowledge on the matter.

But Facebook had no comments on the matter and called it a ‘rumour or speculation.’

Facebook is under a lot of pressure and criticism as many entities and people accused it of playing wrong in case of privacy and protection. In addition to that, former Facebook employee Frances Haugen recently revealed that the company took no action to protect the children who use Facebook even after an internal inquiry found the platform causes harm on them.

Currently the US government is scrutinizing the practices and policies of the social media giant.

According to the report, the new name has something to do with ‘Horizon,’ which was the initial name given to Facebook’s in-development VR gaming platform. Recently the name has been changed to ‘Horizon Worlds.’ The move to change brand name is believed to be part of company’s creation of much-talked Facebook multiverse.
