French President Macron reaches Ireland for important discussions

French President Emmanuel Macron has arrived Ireland for meetings and discussions with Taoiseach Micheal Martin and President Michael D. Higgins today. Mr Macron will be in the country for the whole day and important discussions on Afghanistan crisis, Covid-19 and Brexit would take place between him and Mr Martin.

Apart from discussions Macron will visit Trinity College and the Guinness Enterprise Centre in Dublin. The French President is accompanied by his ministers of foreign affairs, European affairs and finance.

Earlier Mr Macron had pledged that he would visit the all 27 member states ahead of France taking presidency of EU in January.

Mr Macron first went to the Phoenix Park where he was greeted by Mr Higgins and Sabina Higgins at Áras an Uachtaráin. He will now visit the government buildings, where he will have lunch with Taoiseach. Brexit, the future of the EU, corporate tax, Covid-19 and the ongoing situation in Afghanistan are expected to be on the agenda of discussion afterwards. Later both the leaders will meet the press.

In the evening, Mr Macron will be joining the President Higgins and wife Sabina for dinner.
