Home country greets Kellie Harrington; The Gold medalist arrived home in north Dublin by open top bus

After the victorious Gold medal journey in Tokyo Olympics, Irish boxer Kellie Harrington returned to her home country today. As the Covid-19 restrictions are in place, people couldn’t go to the airport to greet the country’s amazing talent. Anyway she later met with the public by an open top bus by the evening, travelling through north of the city to her home.

The 31-year-old Dubliner reached Dublin Airport with her fellow Olympians including the bronze medalist Aidan Walsh.

Harrington later toured through the cheering crowd by an open top bus. The bus travelled from Ballybough, then moved through Gardiner Street, Killarney Street, Portland Row, Sean McDermott Street, Summerhill and the North Strand.

The Dublin City Council had earlier urged only local people to come and greet Harrington on the streets. Harrington also had asked people to stay safe and to keep social distancing.

“We aren’t out of the woods with Covid-19 yet and we need to stick together as a community and look out for each other,” she said.
