Huge quantities of cannabis worth €2.5 million seized by Garda

Garda seized huge quantities of suspected cannabis herb and cannabis plants worth more than €2.5 million following separate searches in Laois, Louth and Offaly.

Garda in Portlaoise seized approximately 121 kg of cannabis herb on Monday morning and the estimate market value for the same is €2.18 million. The search took place at a storage facility on a rural road in Emo, Co Laois. They were found hidden inside the boxes containing vegetables.

One man in his 20s has been arrested from the scene.

In another incident Garda seized cannabis plants worth €64,000 from a home in Drogheda. The plants were fully matured.

Apart from these, 400 cannabis plants of market value €320,000 have been seized and three men have been arrested from a house in Edenderry in Offaly.

Investigations are ongoing.
