India beat Pakistan by 7 wickets in Women’s T20 World Cup campaign opener

At the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town on Sunday, Jemimah Rodrigues’ unbeaten half-century helped India defeat Pakistan by seven wickets in their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup campaign opening match.

Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof won the toss and opted to bat first, Pakistan lost some initial wickets but a half-century from Bismah Maroof and an unbeaten knock of 43* runs from Ayesha Naseem, guided them to a total of 149/4 in 20 overs. 

Chasing a target of 150 runs, India reached 151 for three, courtesy of an unbeaten knock of 53 runs off 38 balls by Jemimah Rodrigues, packed with eight fours.

When Jemimah and Richa Ghosh joined forces to win the match, Richa Ghosh also played an unbeaten knock of 31 runs off 20 balls, including five fours.

Meanwhile, Nashra Sandhu took two wickets for Pakistan, and Sadia Iqbal bagged a dismissal.

For India’s bowling unit, Radha Yadav’s two wickets proved to be crucial. Deepti Sharma and Pooja Vastrakar bagged a dismissal each.
