India red-listed by UK on travel as the new variant of Covid 19 began threatening them

While Covid 19 is making a huge surge in India, UK decided to not allow Indian travellers to fly in there. UK puts India in the red-list for travel. Natives and Irish can enter but they have to follow strict quarantine rules for 10 days in a government approved hotel.

Health secretary Matt Hancock said that many positive cases have been recorded from people who flew in from India. He also said that they are observing the new variant to find out any special characteristic like faster transmission, survival against vaccine etc.

In the meantime the government is planning to implement strategies to defend the new variant. UK has been pretty good in their vaccination rollout and Covid 19 protocols which bring them back to normalcy. Data proves that among 3,345 arrivals from India 4.8% i.e, 161 people were tested positive in the PCR test.
