Indian girl refuses to leave Ukraine to take care of Landlord’s Family

At a time when hundreds of thousands of people are trying to flee war-torn Ukraine, and are making desperate attempts to cross over to other countries for refuge, a medical student from India in Ukraine has refused to leave Ukraine because she does not want to leave her house owner’s family alone amid an invasion by Russia.

A girl from Haryana, who is studying medicine in Ukraine, has decided to stay back in the war-torn country even though she got an opportunity to get evacuated.

In a Facebook post shared by a friend of the student’s parents, the 17-year-old girl had rented a room with a Ukrainian family with three children.

The owner of the house voluntarily joined the Ukrainian Army to fight to serve his country in the ongoing war with Russia. The girl chose to stay back to support his wife and their three children.

According to the report, Neha told her mother  “I may live or not, but I will not leave these children and their mother in such a situation.”

Neha lost her Indian army officer father a couple of years ago. Last year, she got admitted to a medical college in Ukraine.

She is currently living in a bunker with the wife and three children of the house owner.

A student of MBBS, Neha rented a room at the home of a construction engineer in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, as she could not get hostel accommodation.

Savita Jakhar, a close friend of Neha’s mother, said, “Neha got attached to the children of the house-owner. She got advisories to leave the country as the war seemed imminent. Her mother made frantic efforts to arrange for her daughter’s evacuation. Finally, the girl got an opportunity to cross over to Romania, but she refused to abandon the affectionate family she has been staying with at this critical juncture.”

“My friend tried hard to contact the embassy to get her out of there, but the girl does not want to come back leaving those three children and their mother alone in such difficult times. Despite millions of efforts of mother, the girl is stubborn to stay there till the end of the war. I’m wondering what is encouraging that child to stand with that family in such difficult times?”, Savita wrote in her post.

Her post is going viral with a number of people reading and sharing it and lauding the courage shown by the girl.
