GM Alexander Baburin claimed the silver medal with 6.5 points, while FM Tom O’Gorman and FM Colm Daly tied for third place. Tiebreak criteria favored FM Tom O’Gorman who eventually clinched bronze.  Now the Irish Open’s Team in the 2022 Olympiad comprises 5/5 Irish Champions.

The 101st edition of the Irish National Chess Championship took place from 2-10 July in Dublin. The event was played in 9 rounds, Swiss system, with the participation of 25 players.

Meanwhile, the remarkable thing is that the Irish Chess Union has two super talented Indian origins in their ‘board’ – the brother and sister duo of Tarun and Trisha Kanyamarala. In January 2020, aged 14, Trisha became Ireland’s first Woman International Master.
