Ireland defeated Australia to claim third place at Sevens World Cup

Ireland defeated Australia 19-14 in the third-place playoff to win the bronze medal at the Rugby Sevens World Cup.

In a riveting contest that saw Australia lead by seven points twice, Harry McNulty sprinted over for a try in the 13th minute that broke the tie.

Following a disappointing 17-10 defeat to New Zealand earlier on Sunday, James Topping’s side responded in brilliant fashion to beat Australia 19-14 in their bronze medal final at the Cape Town Stadium.

The women’s side also finished their campaign with the win.

Earlier on Sunday, the Ireland women wrapped up their World Cup campaign by beating England to secure a seventh place finish.
