Ireland to send special forces as part of rescue mission to Afghanistan including Army Rangers

As the situation worsens, Ireland will send special forces to Afghanistan to bring back remaining 36 Irish citizens safely. The team will include nine Irish Army Rangers and two members from the Department of Foreign Affairs, it was confirmed. They will reach Kabul, the capital city of Afghanistan as part of the mission.

The mission will start within the next 24 hours and the citizens and their dependents will be brought back to the country by Thursday, reports Independent. The returning journey will be via Paris with the French military. As of now, 10 Irish people have been evacuated from the Taliban captured country.

Yesterday about 10 refugees, the first of the group from Afghanistan have arrived Dublin. Under the International Refugee Resettlement Programme, a total of 200 refugees are expected from Afghanistan to Ireland. Earlier there were calls to admit at least 1,000 on which the government’s decision is pending.

Meanwhile the chaos in Kabul airport is continuing. A number of people have been killed at the airport after the rush and one of them is a security personnel. As the Taliban tighten restrictions, many more people are reaching the airport to flee from the country.
