Ireland’s women’s team takes silver medal at European Championships

The Irish women’s four team almost lost out on a gold medal at the European Championships in Munich, but they held off Romania’s challenge to take silver and earn Ireland’s first medal of the championship.

Ireland’s Tara Hanlon, Aifric Keogh, Eimear Lambe, and Natalie Long have won silver in the women’s four at the European Rowing Championships in Munich.

Ireland took bronze in this category at the Tokyo Olympics, with Eimear Lambe and Aifric Keogh retaining their place in the boat for this event, joined by Tara Hanlon and Natalie Long.

The Irish boat hit the front from the start but Great Britain took over the lead just after the 500m mark and had a length to spare at halfway.

Poland was making a strong run for second as the British boat moved away into the last quarter, but Ireland held on for second, clocking in at 2.07 seconds after the victors, who timed 6.50.92.
