Large fire breaks out at supermarket in Meath

Gardaí and emergency services have attended the scene of a fire at a shop in the square in Bettystown, Co Meath.

The fire, which caused extensive damage to Pat’s Centra and the local post office, was reported at around 10.20 pm yesterday.

Several units of the Drogheda fire service battled to contain the fire, which quickly spread throughout the supermarket.

The fire brigade remained at the scene throughout the night to bring the blaze under control.

The fire was ongoing as of 7.30 am today but is understood to have since been extinguished.

A garda spokesperson said: “A technical examination will take place when the blaze is extinguished to determine the course of any investigation.”

No injuries were reported.
