Majority of Covid patients in ICU are unvaccinated: HSE Chief

The majority of patients being admitted to ICUs due to Covid are unvaccinated, says the HSE chief Paul Reid. As per the latest report 74 patients are in ICUs with Covid now, which is a 20% rise from last week.

According to Reid, 67% of the people in ICUs are unvaccinated. 3% of the others had just one jab.

“It is a really very strong call for myself again today to urge people who haven’t been vaccinated, if you’re not vaccinated, you’re at higher risk of hospitalisation.” Reid said pointing out the latest figures.

“If you’re not vaccinated, you have a higher potential to transmit further.” he added.

Meanwhile 1,384 further Covid cases have been reported in the country today. As of 8am today, 382 patients are hospitalised and 74 of them are in ICU.
