Man arrested after patrol car burned out at Donegal Garda station

A Garda patrol car that was burned out at a Garda station in Co. Donegal led to the arrest of a man in his 30s.

No one was hurt in what is believed to have been a deliberate arson attack at the border-area Castlefin Garda Station.

The incident took place on Saturday morning.

The fire was put out after local fire departments arrived on the scene, but the patrol car was destroyed.

After conducting a thorough investigation all day, garda made an arrest in the Castlefin area.

It came after a joint operation by the local Gardai and the Armed Response Unit.

In connection with the attack, the 30-year-old local man is being questioned at Letterkenny Garda Station.

Under the guidelines of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act of 1984, detectives are questioning him.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed “A man in his 30s was arrested on the afternoon of Saturday 21st January 2023 in connection with this incident.

“He is currently being detained at Letterkenny Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
