No extension of evacuation deadline beyond August 31, says Biden; More Afghan nationals rush to Kabul airport; European countries in contradiction with US decision

Afghanistan shows a rise in number of people reaching to flee from the country after the US President Joe Biden’s confirmation that the US-led evacuations will end next week. The Taliban had already warned the US to leave the country by August 31. But many countries including those of Europe had appealed Mr Biden to extend the evacuation operations as more vulnerable people are needed to be rescued from Afghanistan.

Despite this, Mr Biden said yesterday that the United States would stick to his 31 August deadline to completely withdraw its troops. Following the announcement, many Afghan nationals are racing to Kabul to escape from the Taliban terrorists who took power a week ago by force. Fear also increased that the terrorists might attack people after the warning period given.

As per the latest report, 70,000 people have been evacuated from the country. But more people are reaching airport amid fears of returning the Taliban’s cruel and barbarian ruling. Though the leaders of the regime had stated the women would be given freedom and no acts of vengeance would be carried out, there are already reports coming from the country about the Taliban showing their real face by killing and beating up protestors.

There are also accusations that the Taliban terrorists slow down and stop people from reaching the airport. Still, they say August 31 is the deadline for evacuation.

The European nations have already made it clear that they can’t help all at-risk Afghan nationals to fly out of the country before the proposed date.

“Even if (the evacuation) goes on… a few days longer, it will not be enough,” German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas told Bild TV.

From the chaos and rush near Kabul airport, at least eight deaths have been reported. The airport is still under the control of the US military. India and Ireland have also sent their forces to bring back their citizens safely. The Irish government had already confirmed they would take in at least 200 Afghan refugees from the situation worsening country.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan’s two Paralympic taekwondo athletes, Zakia Khudadadi and Hossain Rasouli, have been safely evacuated from the country, and will not be competing in the upcoming Games in Tokyo.
