Private data from HSE may get published as the cyber attackers hacked their IT systems

HSE head Paul Reid had admitted that hackers who attacked the HSE with ransomware may publish private patient data if the government doesn’t pay the ransom they demanded. The gang of cyber criminals behind the hit left a notification on its server claiming they had accessed information. He had asked the public to continue to register for vaccines through the online portal itself, assuring the public the system is safe to use.

The HSE is planning to administer between 250,000 and 270,000 Covid-19 doses by next week and people are advised to attend their appointment as normal. Those aged between 50 and 69 are eligible to register, with information on those aged 40-49 due to be made public next week. The Department of Health said that daily Covid-19 figures were not available due to the current disruption of the HSE IT systems.

Health services will continue to be affected as computers were shut down as a precautionary measure. The extent of the disruption varies depending on the hospital or service but it’s estimated around 17,000 appointments will be cancelled daily until normal service resumes.
