Recall notice for popular instant noodles due to the presence of pesticide

A batch of popular instant noodles brand is being removed from Irish shops following a recall notice.

Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) issued a recall notice to Lucky Me! Instant Pancit Canton Noodles Original Flavour (60g) with a best before the date of 20/07/2022 due to the presence of an unauthorised pesticide.

The pesticide, also known as Oxirane, can be used as a fumigant to control fungi and bacteria growth in dry food products, according to European Union. It is not authorised to be used in foods in the European Union.

A statement issued by the Food Safety Authority along with the recall said: “The batch of Lucky Me! Instant Pancit Canton Noodles Original Flavour is being recalled due to the presence of the unauthorised pesticide ethylene oxide.

“This pesticide is not authorised for use in foods sold in the EU”

Although the consumption of the contaminated product does not pose an acute risk to health, there may be health issues if there is the continued consumption of ethylene oxide over a long period of time.

Therefore, exposure to this substance needs to be minimised.

Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in stores supplied with the implicated batch.
