Recall of a batch Anitca Macelleria Falorni il Salame Con Cinghiale due to the presence of Shiga toxin producing E. coli

The FSAI announced the recall of Anitca Macelleria Falorni il Salame Con Cinghiale wild boar salami due to the presence of Shiga toxin producing E. coli.

The recalled product is: – Anitca Macelleria Falorni il Salame Con Cinghiale wild boar salami; pack size: approx. 350g (weights may vary); approval number: IT 1524S CE.

Consumers are advised not to eat the affected product. Retailers are requested to remove the implicated product from sale and display recall notices at point of sale. Caterers should not use this product.

In case you are experiencing E. coli symptoms such as watery diarrhea (often bloody), vomiting; stomach cramps; and mild fever, it is important to report it. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.

Shiga toxin producing E. coli (STEC) also known as Verocytotoxigenic E. coli (VTEC) may cause severe bloody diarrhoea and abdominal cramps, although sometimes the infection causes non-bloody diarrhoea or no symptoms. In some groups, particularly children under 5 years of age and the elderly, the infection can also cause a complication called haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS), in which the red blood cells are destroyed and the kidneys fail.
