Recipients of PUP are asked to stop their claims as the retail shops are allowed to reopen soon

280,000 people returning to work as non essential retailers are allowed to open their shops. A majority of shops were shut during the restrictions and now the government had decided to ease the restrictions ahead of outdoor themed summer. In this scenario, government had announced that people who had been claiming the pandemic unemployment payment should close their claims. The payment will stop for these people if

  • employer is paying you
  • employer is getting a payment with the Covid 19 Employer Refund Scheme or Covid 19 Wage Subsidy
  • you have returned to your job or have found another job
  • you did not lose your job because of Covid 19 pandemic
  • you are leaving Ireland

The Department of Social Protection had said that people must stop their payment on the day they get back to work. Claims could be closed through the designated MyGovID account. If there are any arrears, you will receive a notification and payment will be received subsequently. No further action from your part is needed. The authorities have made it clear that over 12,200 people closed their claim over the past seven days since they were getting back to work.
