Recruitment for Review Officer for the Garda Compensation Review Panel

The Minister for Justice is recruiting practising barristers and solicitors for the part-time position of Review Officer on the Garda Compensation Review Panel.

The Garda Síochána (Compensation) Act 2022 (“the Act”) commenced on the 10 April 2023.

The new 2022 Act repealed and replaced the Garda Síochána (Compensation) Acts 1941-1945 and introduced a new statutory scheme that will reduce the waiting times to Garda members or their family members and costs associated with claims for injuries arising from a malicious incident.

Under the new scheme, a Garda who claims they have been maliciously injured will make a claim to the Garda Commissioner.

Section 15 of the Act provides that the Minister shall establish and maintain a panel of such and so many persons as he or she considers appropriate to perform the functions conferred on a review officer by or under this Act, to be known as the Garda Compensation Review Panel.

Expression of Interest applications are invited from practising barristers and solicitors who wish to be considered for the part-time position of Review Officer.
