Ryanair renews call for two-drink limit at airport bars to curb disruption

Ryanair has reiterated its appeal for airport bars to limit passengers to two alcoholic drinks, arguing that such a measure would ensure “a safer travel experience for passengers and crews.”

The airline believes excessive drinking before flights is a significant factor contributing to disruptive behavior onboard.

This renewed call comes as Ryanair steps up its campaign against misconduct. Last week, the airline announced it has begun legal action to recover losses caused by unruly passengers. As part of this clampdown, it filed a civil case in Ireland seeking €15,000 in damages from a passenger whose disruptive actions diverted a flight from Dublin to Lanzarote in April last year.

Ryanair claims the passenger’s behaviour forced the plane to land in Porto, resulting in substantial costs. These included €7,000 for overnight accommodation for over 160 passengers and six crew members, €2,500 in landing and handling fees at Porto Airport, and an additional €2,500 in Portuguese legal fees.

The airline first proposed a two-drink limit at airport bars in August last year when CEO Michael O’Leary highlighted a rise in disorderly conduct during flights.
