Ryanair to cease operations in Northern Ireland in October

Irish carrier Ryanair announced its withdrawal of services from Northern Ireland by this winter. Ryanair will cease operations from Belfast International Airport and Belfast City Airport in October, the company made it clear in a statement.

The move comes ahead of Winter season starting in November and the officials said that they will continue operations in other airports in UK and European countries. They also said the decision was taken following the high air passenger duty and lack of Covid recovery incentives from both the airports, reports The Journal.

Meanwhile a spokesperson for the Belfast International Airport and Belfast City Airport responded to the news as ‘disappointing.’ But he added that the airports would engage with other carriers to fill the vacancies to be made by Ryanair. He also said they had anticipated the move from Ryanair.

Ryanair currently operates routes from Belfast’s two airports to destinations in Italy, Portugal, Poland and Spain.
