South Indian states imposed lockdown as Covid spread has been destructive in India

The southern states Kerala and Tamil Nadu in India have declared lockdowns for a certain period as Covid cases spread across the country in a devastating pace. This adds more pressure upon the Indian Prime Minister to impose a national lockdown.

The Covid cases had been increasing steeply since February and the respective governments who allowed massive crowds and gatherings for religious festivals and political rallies are blamed. The country is already running short of oxygen and crematoriums are being over crowded day by day. The focus of the Indian media has been on the northern states in which patients lying on stretchers, mass funeral pyres and long queue of people who wants to fill oxygen etc. were telecasted.

The magnitude of cases had been totally different as there are more admissions in hospitals and other clinics and eventually they are running out of space. The health care systems and the department are trying hard to find more spaces to admit the patients. The situation stands far better in South India than North India.
