Surge in hospital patients due to Covid; ‘Real threat’ warns HSE chief

The number of people being treated in hospitals due to Covid complications has been increased dramatically in the country today. As per the latest report from the Department of Health, 314 people are now in hospitals due to Covid. Also, further 1,688 cases were confirmed today.

On Sunday it was 259 patients in hospitals. It increased to 314 today and 59 are in ICU.

‘The threat is very real’ the Health Service Executive (HSE) chief Mr Paul Reid said on Twitter amid the worsening situation. He also urged people to take care.

Mr Paul confirmed 91% of adult population in Ireland partially vaccinated and 85% fully vaccinated. 135,000 children in 12-15 age cohort have booked for vaccinations and 77,000 of them availed first dose.

Chief medical officer Dr Tony Holohan had warned about the worsening Covid situation in the country on Saturday. He had also appealed the people to follow public health instructions carefully.

A member of the National Public Health Emergency Team (Nphet), Prof Philip Nolan also indicated the importance of getting vaccinated and advised people to wait at least two weeks after getting second dose to become it effective on the body.
